Ben moved around the US thirteen times before settling in Rockford, Illinois for high school. He played youth soccer since age six through a variety of different programs, and then high school soccer for Rockford Guilford High School. After high school, he spent two years in Uruguay as a church missionary where he had many opportunities to kick the ball around in the streets with a variety of kids. Spending 7 months in Salto has him convinced that a couple of those kids who schooled him grew up to be Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani. In college, he saw players and friends who benefited from phenomenal, consistent coaching, and a desire grew in Ben to teach the game he loves.

Ben holds a US Soccer National B License, an Advanced National Diploma from United Soccer Coaches, and a 3 Dimensional Coaching Certificate from the 3D Institute. He has coached since 2011 for Northwest United and since 2014 at Burlington-Edison High School. He has led multiple Northwest United teams to state cup finals, and helped multiple teams move up in league divisions.

As the Varsity Assistant Coach for the Burlington-Edison Girls, Ben has helped guide the team to a top four in state finish, and two top 8 in state finishes. As the Varsity Head Coach for the Burlington-Edison Boys team, he’s helped guide the team to two of the three state tournament appearances in school history, to a district championship, and a state championship appearance.

Ben feels privileged to have associated with so many great players.

Ben is married to Jen, who grew up in Burlington, set several school records in track and soccer, and went on to run track at Brigham Young University. Thanks to their mother’s athletic genes, all four of Ben’s children played for top teams at Northwest United, and share a love of soccer. Kenna (23) now attends college and works as a ski instructor in Utah. Kaelyn (21) currently plays soccer for Seattle Pacific University. Brennan (19) is currently serving a church mission in Brazil. And Kira (15) plays for Northwest United and Burlington-Edison High school. Ben is an avid skier, loves the outdoors, and watches as many Barcelona and Manchester City games as he can.
